Description:

The Horticulture Department of the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences at the University of Sulaimani, is one of the essential departments of the college. This department works to teach and conduct research to develop and promote horticultural crop production (such as fruits, vegetables, and ornamental plants) for the benefit of farmers and consumers. The Horticulture Department is located in Sulaymaniyah Province, which has a semi-arid climate with hot, dry summers and cold, wet winters. The facilities at our department provide opportunities for research with various crops continuously throughout the year. Our department conducts pioneering research in fruit, vegetable production, ornamental plants, plant biotechnology, postharvest, plant pests’ management, landscape design, and other related fields. Our department offers a high-quality education for undergraduate and graduate (Bachelor degree, Diploma graduate, MSc., and PhD) students to provide them with the skills needed to be successful in their future careers.

Department Vision:

The vision of the horticulture department is to develop and improve the horticulture sector in the surrounding region and create an appropriate environment to boost the horticulture domain.

Department Mission:

  •       Improve the fruit, vegetable, and ornamental fields.
  •       Present numerous classes, workshops, and training in the horticulture sector.
  •       Provide the labor market with highly-skilled people.
  •       Conduct research in many different horticultural fields to solve farmers’ problems and market their products.
  •       Build a strong relationship between farmers and academic centers.

  •       Demonstrating applied science and appreciation of plant diversity, culture, and utilization.
  •       Use horticultural principles to successfully grow and produce horticultural plants.
  •       Demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and characteristics required to be productive members of the horticulture profession.

  •       To solve horticultural problems, synthesize and integrate information.
